WE'RE SHORTHANDED? WHO CARES?

After last season's improbable championship volleyball run at the YMCA by our team, Bye Week...I was anxious to see how we'd fair in the playoffs this season.  We started off the season great, but then some schedule conflicts caused some of our players to miss some games, and we ended up finishing the season around .500.

After showing up and seeing that we only had four players (you're supposed to play with six), I was a bit concerned.  But we had always played better shorthanded...but we'd never played two players short. (apparently Amanda thinks it's more important to go to NCAA championship games than it is to attend a rec league volleyball playoff game....pfft.  Whatever.  And apparently Anna doesn't read her email.  Sheesh...some people.)

It was just Steve, Chris, Sarah and myself and we were matched up against Schoeny's Terminators in the first round...a team we have had words with in previous games, so let's just say we enjoy beating them moreso than other teams.

The first game was close the whole way.  We had a 20-18 lead, but ended up losing 25-22.  That game was pretty intense.  A lot of long volleys and a lot of serious effort on a lot of plays...which should go without saying since our team of four players is covering the ground that six players normally cover.

The second game went a bit differently.  We were down 4-1 early but then came back a bit and the score was about 8-8 when I started serving....and they never got the ball back.  We destroyed them the rest of the way as we won the game 25-8.  They couldn't handle my serve, but let's be honest...few can.

The only time the third game was close was when it was tied 0-0.  We got out to an early lead and never really looked back as we won 25-13 I think.

All of this while shorthanded and playing with only four players.

That was fun...let's do it again next week in round two.
