curtprice: @jprutherford - Brewer as capt. again has to upset most Blues fans, considering most fans would prefer Brewer not be on the team at all.

curtprice: @NormSanders - management may be adamant that brewer is still capt...but they should be prepared for backlash when he underperforms...again.

curtprice: Ricky Horton doesn't like booing...he thinks fans should just be silent instead. Uh...What??

curtprice: @jprutherford - Critical year for Berglund, no doubt. He needs to drastically improve his numbers for the Blues to do well.

PostHeaderIcon FLORIDA FOLLIES - DAY ONE

Thursday morning...3:45am.
That's when we left for the airport.  We headed to Florida for Mark & Christy's wedding.  Keith was kind enough to drive us there...and we were on our way.

Teresa and I used our frequent flyer miles to pay for the flight and hotel stay, but we couldn't get on the same flight.  So her plane went to Dallas and then Tampa, while mine went to Miami and then Tampa.  Oh, and did you know that American Airlines charges $15 for your first checked bag and another $25 if you want to check a second bag?  Wow.  Anyway, we board our planes...and this is when the goofiness started.

Dallas was getting hammered with severe thunderstorms.  So when Teresa's flight was supposed to leave for Tampa from Dallas, it was delayed...and delayed...and delayed...and delayed.  It was delayed over four hours.  I waited at the Tampa airport for about four hours for her flight to get in...but it finally did around 4:30pm eastern time.

We went to pick up Teresa's bag from the baggage area,  but it wasn't there, along with about 25 other people's luggage that the airline had lost from that flight out of Dallas.  So, we went to baggage services and waited in the long line.  They found Teresa's bag and they said it should arrive on the 9pm flight, if not, it would arrive on a later flight but we should have it by the next day.  We gave them our hotel information so the bag could be delivered to us.  The only odd thing was that we were only staying in Tampa for one night and then going to Sarasota for the next two nights and then coming back to Tampa for the last night.  When we gave them our Tampa hotel information, we asked if they wanted our Sarasota hotel information in case the bag was delayed and we left Tampa before the bag came in.  We specifically asked if that would cause any confusion and we were told that it would not be confusing.

It was apparently confusing.

We woke up on Friday morning and called the front desk of our hotel to see if the bag had arrived.  They said it had not.  We then checked American Airline's website to check the status of our bag, it said that it had been delivered.  What happened?  Well, we called our hotel in Sarasota and...you guessed it...they sent it to the Sarasota hotel by mistake after we specifically made a point to tell them not to do that unless it was being delivered later on Friday.

Not only are we upset about American Airline's complete incompetence, but we are upset we paid them $15 not only to lose Teresa's bag but to deliver it to the wrong hotel in the wrong city.  I WILL be getting that $15 back, mark my words.

All of that was jam packed into day #1.

The bright side to the trip so far, and it's a pretty nice bright side...is that we asked for an upgrade at our Tampa Hotel, and not only did they upgrade us, but they gave us a penthouse suite overlooking the ocean.  It's pretty amazing.  One wall is entirely windows going from floor to ceiling.  It has a huge king size bed, two bathrooms, jucuzzi tub with a mirror ceiling (nice) and a foyer entry way and of course it's right on the ocean.  And after our frequent flyer miles, the room only cost us $10.  The paper on the back of the door said the room can go for as much as $1500 a night.  So yeah, that's  nice bright side.  Too bad we're only here for one night.  Here's the view from the wall of windows:

We also spent some time on the beach (which is massive) and found a place with awesome Gelato called Lenny's after our dinner at Hurricane's.  Did you know that Gelato is 95% fat free?  Well, you do now.  Eat it and eat it often.

I'm sure day #2 will be much better after Teresa is re-united with her bag in Sarasota.

During a visit to the SIUE University Museum to help pick out artwork for our newly remodeled office space, I stumbled across a 30 year old newspaper...and this is what I saw:

slapshot movie ad

It kinda speaks for itself.  Although, one has to wonder what a 30 year old newspaper is doing all crumpled up in a box.  At any rate, it was a cool find.

PostHeaderIcon RAIN SUCKS

Before today, Edwardsville, IL had received almost 12 inches of rain in the past two days.  And today, we got dumped on again...probably another couple inches in about 45 minutes.  Lakes are overflowing, roads are flooding, basements are collapsing, cars are being washed off of roads and into lakes, everything is saturated with rain...and worst of all, our softball game was cancelled.

Here is a shot of the flooding in the Ebbets Field subdivision.  I sure hope Robert Plumber (RP Lumber) does a good job waterproofing the basements there. (with what people pay to live there, he better)

This is a shot of Chancellor Drive after 30 minutes of rain.  I had to get in on the passenger side of my Jeep because the driver's side had about six inches of water over there.  The water was up into people's yards.  I rolled down my window to take this photo of the car splashing water...and as it went by...you guessed it, it tossed some water up into my car.

Ugh...enough with the rain.
The only thing this rain is doing is slowing down the construction of our house.  The siding still needs to go on...and it won't go on when it is raining.

On the bright side, Jeff's basement is bone dry, which is surprising with all of the trouble everyone seems to be having with water in their basements around here.  The basement at the new house was dry as well, except for where some rain got in because the chimney isn't fully complete yet...so no biggie there.

I wonder how the basement at 117 Edding lane is doing?  It can't be good.  Have fun with that Tom.
