curtprice: @jprutherford - Brewer as capt. again has to upset most Blues fans, considering most fans would prefer Brewer not be on the team at all.

curtprice: @NormSanders - management may be adamant that brewer is still capt...but they should be prepared for backlash when he underperforms...again.

curtprice: Ricky Horton doesn't like booing...he thinks fans should just be silent instead. Uh...What??

curtprice: @jprutherford - Critical year for Berglund, no doubt. He needs to drastically improve his numbers for the Blues to do well.

PostHeaderIcon DIRTBAGS BREAK OUT WHOOPIN' STICKS

After two straight weeks of rainouts, the Metro East Dirtbags softball team destroyed the team from Timbuktu, 19-3 in a five-inning shortgame.

It was never close.
Timbuktu's pitcher was lobbing the pitches in there and they were as big as beach balls.  They also didn't field very well.  We scored a good chunk of our runs after they should have been out of innings but failed to make a play that they should have.

The Dirtbags couldn't have played a much better game though.  We fielded extremely well and everyone was hitting.

Timbuktu did try a unique strategy in barely clothing their female players.  Let's just say if they had been wearing belts you wouldn't have been able to see their shorts, which may be why Dirtbag third baseman Bill Day booted a ball that came his way early in the game.  Bill's 3rd base view of the right handed female batters (especially the ones who crouched a bit as they stood at the plate) was...well...impressive to say the least.

The Dirtbags are now 2-1 on the season.

No game next week for us, but the following week we have two games in one night...7:30 & 9:30.  WooHoo!!

After blowing a late six-run lead and then going on to lose in extra innings in our first game of the season, we were looking to play more of a complete game in week two.

I'd say that we made quite a statement in the top half of the first inning when we put up eleven runs...ELEVEN!  I know we have had games in the past where we were down by a lot of runs early, but we were never down by eleven before we even got to bat.  It was quite the offensive display.

One of the members of the other team was overheard saying, "Those guys should be in a higher league...what are they doing in this league?"
Wha?
Ummm...we LOST last week.
I think they should be telling themselves that they need to be in a lower league.

We went on to win 17-11...but the other team put up quite a few runs in the last couple innings...again.  So I guess the only thing we can try to work on for next game is closing the door late in the game.  In the first week we allowed 8 runs in the last two innings and we allowed 8 runs in the last two innings in the second game as well.

This was Jeff's season debut on the mound, and he did a fine job.

This was also the debut of the Metro East Dirtbag team shirts and hats...they turned out great (grey shirts with green print and green hats with a black and white 'D' on the front and everyone's number on the back)...we are now 1-0 while wearing our team uniforms.  Best uniforms in the league...no doubt.

Next week's game is at 7:30 vs. Ninian's Brew Crew.

Wednesday night, May 5th kicks off the 2010 Edwardsville Rec Softball League.

We look to improve on our less than stellar record the past couple of seasons.

Jeff makes his return to the roster this year and will be pitching most of the season (but he'll miss the first two weeks)...Anna is our catcher...Captain Amanda is at 1st base...Keri is at 2nd....I'll be at Short...Chris is at the hot corner...Derek, Mark, Brittany, and Christie are in the outfield.  John, Keith and Amy will be mixed in when they are able to show up...and a neighbor of Jen's is on the roster as well, but I haven't met her yet and don't know her name.

We hope to overcome the suspected plethora of illegal bats that some teams use...and I will indeed be deceiving opposing baserunners this season, even though I was threatened to be kicked out of the game the last time I did that (can you believe that??).  Screw 'em.

Showtime is 8:30.
